Continuing on with the Sunday Artist Interviews – many are lined up, so keep checking back, I think we need a few more distractions from the rather scary times we’re all living in right now! I’ve actually been doing these interviews over a year now! Here’s Joy to tell you a bit about herself and her art….
First of all, who are you?
Good day! My name is Joy and I’m the creator behind Moonjoycreations. I live in Albany, NY US but I’ve been a little bit here and there. I make hand painted jewelry and mixed media using resin and clay. My craft started as a way to relieve anxiety and stress and now has become a way to channel my talents and inspirations. Nature and the spiritual realm have always been an inspiration to me and my work channels my inner child that is connected to these worlds, with themes of night skies, flora and fauna, celestial scenes, and landscapes.
When you were asked (all those years ago!), “what do you want to be when you grow up?” What did you answer?
I actually did say I wanted to be an artist!
What is the hardest part of being creative?
The hardest part I have found is letting my creations go. I spend a lot of energy into my work and like to admire them, but I know they should be admired by more than just me.
What advice would you give to an artist just starting out?
Keep going! No matter what keep doing your practice.
What subjects inspire you?
I am inspired by nature and spirituality. I am always feeling uplifted when I paint from them. I am also inspired by my dreams which are always with me throughout the day. Along with my dreams, I tend to channel my inner child and the worlds my imagination would create when I was young. These things not only inspire me but drive me to be my true creative self.
Who are the 3 greatest living artists in your opinion? (they don’t have to be famous!)
Jenns Joys, Amandaclarkartist and A Korean artist called Do Ho Suh.
Who are the 3 greatest dead artists in your opinion?
Alphonse Muncha, Caravaggio, Hokusai
What is your favourite work of art you have ever produced?
Currently I’m in love with my Luna moth series.
What was the last piece of art you sold?
I made a custom piece for someone of a cosmic wave with ginkgo leaves.
And finally… Because this is really important….
What’s the best type of cheese? (haha)
